Minecraft RGB Gradient Text Generator
Build a color gradient and see it on chat, a sign, and the server list before you commit to it, then export it in whatever format your setup actually reads.

Setting this on a live server?
Sparked Host runs Java and Bedrock, both configured for you.
Paste your export straight into a Paper or Velocity config on a server that's already set up for it.
What RGB/hex text actually is
Since Java Edition 1.16, text can be colored with any hex value, like #FF0099, instead of being limited to the 16 classic colors. A gradient just changes that hex value smoothly from one character to the next. It only exists as a JSON text-component field and a legacy §x escape sequence, so it needs Java 1.16 or later, and server software that understands it.
How to use it on chat, signs, and MOTDs
Type your text above, pick two or more colors, and check the preview tabs to see roughly how it'll look in each spot. Then copy whichever export format matches where you're pasting it: #hex for most plugin configs, §x for the game's own internal format, MiniMessage for Paper/Velocity configs written that way, or a ready-made /tellraw command for chat and command blocks.
Java vs Bedrock support
Bedrock Edition doesn't support hex/RGB colors at all, and it drops underline and strikethrough too. Bold, italic, obfuscated, and the 16 classic colors work on both editions. If your server has Bedrock players (through Geyser or otherwise), plan for them to see the nearest classic color instead of your gradient.
The 16 classic color codes
Every hex color this tool exports falls back to one of these on Bedrock, or on any Java server too old for RGB support.
| Color | Code | Hex |
|---|---|---|
| Black | §0 | #000000 |
| Dark Blue | §1 | #0000AA |
| Dark Green | §2 | #00AA00 |
| Dark Aqua | §3 | #00AAAA |
| Dark Red | §4 | #AA0000 |
| Dark Purple | §5 | #AA00AA |
| Gold | §6 | #FFAA00 |
| Gray | §7 | #AAAAAA |
| Dark Gray | §8 | #555555 |
| Blue | §9 | #5555FF |
| Green | §a | #55FF55 |
| Aqua | §b | #55FFFF |
| Red | §c | #FF5555 |
| Light Purple | §d | #FF55FF |
| Yellow | §e | #FFFF55 |
| White | §f | #FFFFFF |
Setting this up on your own server
Once you've got the export you need, dropping it into a Minecraft server you control is the easy part. If you're not sure which format your plugin or proxy expects, its own documentation is the fastest way to check.

What is RGB/hex text in Minecraft?
It's a per-character color format added in Java Edition 1.16, written as a hex value like #FF0099 instead of one of the 16 classic colors. A gradient is just this hex color changing smoothly from character to character.
- ?
Does RGB text work on Bedrock Edition?
No. Bedrock's chat and text formatting only supports the 16 classic colors, plus bold, italic, and obfuscated. Hex/RGB colors, underline, and strikethrough are Java-only. This tool flags that clearly so you don't ship a format that silently fails for Bedrock players.
- ?
Which format code should I use?
&#RRGGBB is what most plugin configs (Paper, Spigot, Velocity) expect. The §x vanilla format is what the game itself stores internally. MiniMessage is for Paper/Velocity configs written in that syntax. /tellraw is a ready-to-run command for chat, command blocks, or datapacks.
- ?
How do I use this on a sign or in the server MOTD?
Copy the &#hex format and paste it into your sign text or server.properties motd line if your server software supports it (Paper and Spigot do; vanilla doesn't). The preview above shows roughly how it'll look on both.

Why did my bold/italic formatting disappear partway through my gradient?
In the legacy color format, every new color code resets any formatting that came before it, so bold or italic has to be reapplied after each character's color. This tool handles that automatically in every format it exports.
