What is a Minecraft MOTD?
MOTD stands for 'message of the day' — it's the line (or lines) of text shown under your server's name in the multiplayer server list, alongside the player count and ping. It's set with the motd= line in server.properties.
- ?
How do I add color to my MOTD?
Use the toolbar's color swatches or type &-codes directly, like &c for red or &a for green. Minecraft supports 16 named colors, plus RGB/hex colors and gradients on 1.16 and newer versions with Spigot, Paper, or a proxy like BungeeCord/Velocity.
- ?
Why doesn't my gradient show up on vanilla servers?
Vanilla server.properties only understands the 16 legacy color codes, not RGB/hex. Turn on 'Legacy codes only' to preview and export the closest matching legacy colors instead, or use the Spigot/Paper export if your server supports it.
- ?
Can I use more than 2 lines in my MOTD?
The multiplayer server list only displays 2 lines, but Paper and some proxies can rotate longer MOTDs. Keep your important text within the first 2 lines and under roughly 45 visible characters per line to avoid it getting cut off.
- ?
How do I use this with Spigot, Paper, BungeeCord, Velocity, or ServerListPlus?
Switch the export tab to your platform and copy the generated line or config block into the matching file — server.properties for vanilla/Spigot/Paper, config.yml for BungeeCord/Velocity, or ServerListPlus.yml for the ServerListPlus plugin.

Is this MOTD generator free to use?
Yes, completely free, no account or login required. Build your MOTD, copy or download it, and optionally share a link that reloads your exact design later.
