Palworld Server Configurator

Editing a raw .ini file to run your own Palworld server is a fast way to break something. One misplaced value or one wrong syntax character, and your server won't start, or worse, starts with settings you didn't intend.

This tool turns that text file into sliders, toggles, and number fields, so you can dial in experience rates, base camp limits, and death penalty rules without memorizing parameter names.

Adjust the values below, and the exact PalWorldSettings.ini syntax is generated for you automatically.

Everything you need to know about Palworld server settings

How the file works, what each setting actually does, and where the trade-offs are.

What Is a Palworld Server

A Palworld server is the backend that lets you and your friends play together in a persistent, shared world, one that keeps running whether or not you're logged in. You can host it two ways: locally on your own machine, or through a dedicated hosting provider. Local hosting is free but ties up your own hardware and internet connection. A hosting provider gives you a dedicated server with better uptime and none of the wear on your personal PC.

Either way, the server runs on the same underlying config file, and that file determines how your world behaves: how fast players level up, how many bases they can build, what happens when a Pal dies.

Dedicated Servers vs Local Hosting

Dedicated servers exist for one reason: consistency. A local Palworld server depends on your home internet connection, your computer staying on, and your hardware handling the load of every connected player. A dedicated server removes that dependency and isolates your game world from your day-to-day computer use.

If you're running a public server, or one with more than a couple of regular players, a dedicated setup gives you room to grow. Player locations, base camps, and saved progress won't be sitting on a machine that might get shut down mid-session.

Understanding PalWorldSettings.ini

Palworld server settings live inside PalWorldSettings.ini, and this tool is built directly around that file. On a Linux dedicated server, it's typically found at /Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/, and on Windows at Pal\Saved\Config\WindowsServer\.

Every setting in that file, from experience rate to Pal sync distance to base camp limits, is stored as a plain text parameter and value. Most generators stop at a handful of the most common ones. This tool covers all 119, grouped into Server & Network, Gameplay & Balance, and Advanced, so nothing you might need is missing.

After generating your config above, download it and drop it into that folder, replacing the existing PalWorldSettings.ini, not the default one. Then restart the server. Palworld doesn't hot reload settings changes; the server has to restart to read the updated file.

How the Configurator Works

1

Adjust the settings you care about

Use the sliders and toggles above for experience rate, base camp limits, death penalty, and everything else.

2

Preview the output

The generated .ini syntax updates in real time, so you can confirm values before exporting.

3

Download or copy the file

Export a ready-to-use file, or copy the text straight to your clipboard.

4

Upload and restart

Drop the file into your server's config folder and restart to apply the changes.

No manual syntax, no guessing at parameter names, and no restart that fails because of a stray comma.

Settings Worth Understanding

Server Performance

A handful of settings have an outsized effect on how smoothly your world runs. Disabling invader enemies (bEnableInvaderEnemy=False) helps a lot on limited hardware. ServerPlayerMaxNum and BaseCampMaxNum both add ongoing load as they climb, and pushing BaseCampWorkerMaxNum above 20 is a common cause of lag. None of these are wrong to raise, they just come with a cost, and this tool flags them inline.

Base Camp Limits

BaseCampMaxNum controls the total base camps allowed across your server, defaulting to 128, enough for a sizable world without unlimited growth. Raising it gives players more room to build, but more active camps means more ongoing processing load. Pair it with the worker count setting so you can weigh both at once.

Death Penalty

Palworld ships four death penalty options, ranging from losing nothing to losing your full inventory and equipment. There's no universally correct value here: a harsh penalty raises the stakes, a lenient one keeps things casual for newer players. This tool lists all four with a short description of each.

Online Players

ServerPlayerMaxNum sets your hard player cap and defaults to 4. The right number depends on your hardware and community size, not just how many people want in. A cap set too high just means the server tries to support connections it can't comfortably handle.

Player Locations & Fast Travel

Starting location determines where new players spawn in when they first join, and fast travel settings control how freely players can move between discovered points once they've explored the map. Both are worth thinking about alongside base camp limits and Pal sync distance.

Backups & Server Stability

Regular backups are essential. A crash, a bad shutdown, or a corrupted save can undo hours of a community's progress in seconds. Automated backups, one-click restoration, and automatic restarts after a crash keep a server stable without you needing to hunt for a backup file at 2 a.m.

Setup, Steam & Ports

Before any setting matters, the server has to be installed and reachable: the dedicated server files downloaded through Steam, the correct port opened, and the folder structure in place. Once that's done, players connect to your server's address like any other dedicated multiplayer server.

Running More Than One Config

Running more than one Palworld server, a public one and a private one for friends, say, is easy to manage with this tool. Dial in a stricter, slower config for a hardcore world, download it, then adjust the values again and export a second file for a faster, more casual world.

Stop editing raw text and guessing at syntax

Set your values, preview the output, and get a Palworld server that runs the way your community actually wants to play.

Palworld Server Configurator FAQ

Can't find what you're looking for?

  • ?

Do I need to know how to code to use this?

No. You adjust values through the interface, and the tool outputs the file.

  • ?

Where do I put the file once it's generated?

Into your server's settings folder: on Linux, typically /Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/, or Pal\Saved\Config\WindowsServer\ on Windows. Replace PalWorldSettings.ini, not the default file.

  • ?

Do I need to restart my server after changing settings?

Yes. Palworld doesn't apply changes live, so save the file, then restart for the new values to take effect.

  • ?

How do I raise XP, catch rate, or loot drops?

Increase ExpRate, PalCaptureRate, CollectionDropRate, or EnemyDropItemRate above their default of 1.0. Each is a straight multiplier, so 2.0 is double the default rate. Leave Difficulty set to None so your custom multipliers aren't overridden by a difficulty preset.

  • ?

    Why aren't my settings applying?

A few common causes: you edited the wrong file, the server was still running when you saved, your hosting panel has its own settings UI that overwrites manual file edits on restart, or a world already exists, in which case WorldOption.sav takes precedence over PalWorldSettings.ini for most values.

  • ?

Will raising player count or base camp limits hurt performance?

It can. Both increase RAM usage and processing load. Raise them gradually and watch server performance rather than maxing out immediately. This tool flags the specific settings worth watching.

  • ?

Can I use this with any hosting setup?

Yes. The generated file works whether your dedicated server is self-managed on Linux or Windows, or running through a hosting provider.
